A Note from our Pastor:
Grace and peace
to you, Westminster students. Because our sanctuary sits just across Maple
street from your chapel and classrooms, we here at New Wilmington Pres think
of you often and strive to hold you and your studies in our prayers. I know
that in my own journey, my liberal arts education at a small college similar
to Westminster were the most formative years of my life--filled with rich
studies and good, lasting friendships ... not to mention the worst antics of
my life. I pray it is so for you, as well (on all counts). I want to
extend a warm invitation to you and your friends to join us any Sunday
morning at 10:30 for worship and fellowship. Week to week, we are striving
to create what many people call "blended" worship -- pulling the best pieces
of Christian worship from both traditional and contemporary sources, putting
them together in a way that is energetic and thoughtful, full of a rich
variety of music and prayer. My prayer is always that God will bless us
with a time together that is warm and welcoming, grounded in scripture
and relevant for today. If such a service would bless you in your journey
of faith, I hope you'll cross Maple Street one Sunday and join us. Our
doors are always open to you, and we're close by. May God bless you and
guide you through your college days.

A Note from our Associate Pastor:

Psalm 51 is familiar with its fresh words of confession - Create in me a clean heart, O Lord, and renew a right spirit within me. While reading this past week, I came across a new interpretation of this scripture as shared in "The Message". Eugene Peterson says it like this:
Give me a fresh start, Lord,
Create a Genesis week out of the chaos of my life.
I know many of you freshmen have been participating in the 'Fresh Start' program. This program is designed to get you off to a good start, a rock solid start to your college career. For those of you who are upper classmen, freshmen year may seem like eons ago, but perhaps the prayer is the same: do something new here, Lord. We all know the creation stories of Genesis: God speaks, things happen; out of darkness, there is light; humans are created and given power and purpose. But there is also chaos there, brooding under and over those God-ordered waters. We all know and experience that chaos in particular moments of life. If you are in a chaotic moment, as college begins, then I am praying for you for a Genesis week. That you will feel in the forces around you not chasms of chaos, but instead the force and fulfillment of the God who creates and redeems and sustains. If you are looking for a sanctuary in this new start, know that our doors, our worship, our offices are open to you. Grace and peace this genesis week. Lisa
